Affects of Media on Women

All across media we receive the same image of a woman. The woman has flawless skin, perfect hair, toned body, thin but with a big butt, big boobs, and pearly white teeth. It is plastered across the media that you have to be this ideal woman to gain anything in life. That your body and how you look equals your success as a person. The people who thought this plastered this across the media saying that nobody wants to see something with anything less than perfect. This idea has been adopted into our culture. That for a woman to achieve anything they must be absolute perfection. The standard of perfection is plastered on magazine covers and in movies. Anything less than what is plastered across media and you are ugly. However, this ideal beauty is unobtainable. The photos that you see on the front cover of magazines and the actors in the shows you watch, have been edited so much to obtain that perfection. They have been edited to the point where it is impossible to achieve that beauty while looking through a mirror. The only way to even reach anything close to do this is to do something unnatural. Like have plastic surgery or force yourself to throw up. Women do these things to obtain that perfection but never reach it. And when they do this they are frowned upon by society. Many girls compare themselves to this unobtainable beauty. They see what they are lacking. They see what they don’t have. Because they are not that unobtainable perfection they start to try and be it. When they can’t obtain it because it is impossible, they begin to hate their own body. They start to be something they are not, hiding who they really are. They eat less than what is healthy, they take supplements, they have plastic surgery, they have all of these things done to their bodies to to try and reach that unobtainable perfection. Not only does this hurt their bodies but it also hurts their minds. They start to hate who they are, causing depression. Overall because of the unobtainable perfection that media paints it hurts women.
