Tricky Advertisements
I feel like in my everyday life advertisements do not trick me. Most of the time I spot what they are trying to do because the advertisements aren’t realistic. However, I know that every once in awhile an advertisement will persuade me to buy something I don’t want. Especially if they have animals in the advertisement. When I was a little younger and i didn’t really know what I liked I would ask my parents to get me whatever looked cool on the TV. Like the Secret Formula Lab kit or that sand that doesn’t get wet when you put it in water. I would get them and it would hold me interest for a couple of days. Then I would lose interest and it would sit somewhere in my closet for months and months. But now as I get older I’m more careful about what I get. I would like to think that no one has any influence over what I buy. But I know that isn’t true. The people at my school, and what they wear and like heavily influence what I do. Whether it be that I follow the trends and do what everyone else is doing. Or readily avoid that and go the opposite way. Advertisements that target some of my hobbies have the biggest impact or likelihood that I will buy their product. Like advertisements on books, cooking, movie trailers, photography, and more. Advertisement companies do research to figure out these hobbies and things that people like and target them. I think this careful research does help them win me over sometimes. However, some of the assumptions that they make are very questionable. Overall, while I think that advertisements do not have a big influence on my life they do.
